After the recent successes with rieslings I decided to give the Barefoot one a try. Already a fan of their merlot and pinot grigio, this wine won a gold medal in the 2011 Pacific Rim International Wine Competition. Perhaps it was the high expectation but this wine was a little disappointing.
It’s not the worst wine but it’s very, very sweet. I prefer rieslings that lean towards dry. On the plus side, it’s very bright and bubbly with some apple and floral notes. If in a position of drinking this wine, plan ahead and eat something salty to provide contrast. I wouldn’t get this particular Barefoot again but highly recommend the merlot and pinot grigio.
