Utz “The Crab Chip”
Utz Crab Chips despite the name do not contain crab but rather the seasoning associated with crab cakes and shrimp. Utz refers to it as Chesapeake Bay seasoning but many know it as “Old Bay.”
This type of seasoning is beloved in and around the East and Gulf Coasts. The primary seasonings in the mix are paprika, celery seed, salt and black pepper. In addition to crab cakes and shrimp Old Bay works well on popcorn and a slew of other items. My introduction came at a restaurant in New England where the french fries were coated in it to delicious effect. The chip coating is generous. Paprika, gives the chips a reddish shade. The salt on the chips, like Old Bay is quite heavy which means a few go a long way. The celery seed and black pepper really come through. These chips aren’t bad, but go in with expectation that they will be salty. Another Utz review can be found here.
