Cinnamon Raisin Bread

The other day I posted about the disappointing hot cross bun from Leske’s bakery in Park Slope. As promised I wanted to check out other items to give a more fair assessment on this new to the nabe business.

Open since 1961 in Bay Ridge, they specialize in Scandanavian sweets along with fresh breads, and Italian goods. The new Park Slope store is located at 588 5th Avenue (Between 16th and Prospect) formerly occupied by Sweet Treasures.

Pictured is a loaf of fresh cinnamon raisin bread ($2.95). They’ll slice it for you which is always fun to see. It lasted the full week and retained a fresh flavor. Unlike other places, they’re not stingy with the raisins. I tried it in a few ways, including with butter, bacon and tomato, jam. My favorite combo turned out to be grilled cheese eaten with my homemade split pea soup.

At $2.95, the price makes it cheaper than many of the out of state brands available at the grocery store.

Fresh breads are available daily. They’re also 5am to 8pm every day – earlier than all the other area bakeries. The next time I get a sweet tooth I’ll be trying their famous Scandanavian speciality, the Kringler. Leske’s, you have a new fan.
