Delhi Heights is a relatively new addition to the Indian buffet friendly neighborhood of Jackson Heights Queens. Since I was there earlier than normal, my favorite spot, Indian Taj was not open. Forced to break with tradition I decided to check out these guys and their $7/ lunch box meal. The buffet had about 10 items available, with a focus more on meat than vegetables.
Unlike other places in the area, they just handed me boxes to pack my own food rather than nickel and dime-ing. In one box I got the chili corn, saag and chana masala. The chili corn was in a flavorful sweet and sour type of sauce. The saag was creamy and slightly sweetened. The chana masala had nice notes of cardamom and clove. For the non-vegetarian box I got the saag, an excellent, creamy dal makhani and a very subpar chili chicken which tasted like the sauce came from a jar. On the positive front they gave me 2 pieces of naan as well. Overall for the price, it was a great deal but maybe I’ll stick with the veg items next time around.
