The annual Big Apple BBQ Fest is happening today June 8th and 9th from 11am to 6pm. Located in Madison Square Park, I wrote about it extensively last year here and here. My favorite last time by far was Scott’s Barbeque. They had a 5 minute line which usually is a bad sign, but the simple vinegar and pepper base sauce blew me away. Other notable places include Big Bob Gibsons and the Salt Lick.
At the festival there isn’t much that is vegetarian friendly but we’ve created a good version at home using tofu (Another post to follow with recipe).
Canada is in the dark ages in barbecueing, my daughter has had some great bbq in Texas, and I had some in Florida but we lack the variety. Sounds like a nice BBQ fest, was it all pork or did they have beef and fish?
It’s definitely worth checking out. No fish but lots of brisket, sausage, and baby back ribs. (Styles like St. Louis, Carolina, Memphis and of course Texas were well represented. Thanks for the comment. Cheers.
