It’s pina colada season so it’s fitting that the July Food Song of the Month is “Escape: The Pina Colada Song.” Admittedly it’s a very cheesy song. This 1979 hit from Rupert Holmes is about a man and woman in long term relationship tired of each other. The woman places an ad in the paper looking for someone who apparently must like pina coladas and getting caught in the rain among other things. Miraculously, the respondent to the ad is her husband. They go on to meet at a bar and realize they were unintentionally meeting each other. It’s a rather silly song but sounds like a song you would expect to hear at a bar oceanside. Here is a link to the lyrics though they scroll through the youtube link as well. The song was also featured on the soundtrack to the movie Grownups starring Kevin James, Adam Sandler and Chris Rock.
For past Food Songs of the Month go here.
I’m always amazed they are not upset that each is unfaithful. I mean, I don’t believe in monogamy but song people do. Neither is into yoga or health food by the way.
Hahha exactly. Who would react that nonchalantly? Strange but fitting for a beach type of song certainly. Thanks for the comment. Hope you’re doing well.
