Product Reviews: Chebe Cinnamon Sticky Buns

Chebe Cinnamon Roll Mix Source: Chebe

Gluten free sticky buns? What is this sorcery? This box from Chebe was picked up at Stop and Shop for $3.99 – not a bad price for GF but you do have to add in eggs, butter, milk, brown sugar and cinnamon. Well, at least it’s all stuff already at home for most folks. Whereas most GF goods tend to be made with combos of rice, brown rice, and or potato flour, this mix is made with manioc (tapioca) flour. To make it gluten free and vegan, I substituted eggs with flax meal, coconut for dairy milk, and smart balance for regular butter.

The box says it should yield 12-15 rolls. We were able to get 11 out of the mix. Rolling it up and chopping it was quite fun and the mix itself smelled amazing. They didn’t rise like standard buns, and they were much darker than those pictured on the box. But they were very delicious – they were sticky as promised and very gooey. They even have that elasticity more often seen with regular flour based sweets. I recommended eating them all the first day for maximum enjoyment as the next day they harden a touch. I’d absolutely buy these again – in fact, they’d unfortunately sold out the last time I look. I’d love to try more stuff by these guys. Great, great product. Store Locator

  1. We’ve made these too (used flax and coconut milk). Turned out great.
