Chaat is an Indian word for an assortment of savory sweet snacks using carbs like chickpea, corn, wheat, rice based and other crunchies. Onions, potatoes, chickpeas, and tamarind often make appearances too. I was out of potatoes so I improvised this one using hashbrowns. The puffed millet gives it a fun, chewy texture. It only takes about 10 minutes to put together.
Prep Time: 2 minutes
Cook Time: 8-10 minutes
Ingredients:
2 hashbrowns
¼ onion, diced small
1 cup chickpeas
tamarind chutney to taste
coriander chutney to taste
chili powder to taste
salt to taste
1.5 cups puffed millet
cilantro (optional)
tomato (optional)
Method:
Heat oil in a pan to medium. Lay down the 2 hashbrowns. Cook 4 minutes per side or until browned on both sides. In the meantime, chop onions. Once the hashbrowns are done, place into bowl. Add chickpeas, onions and millet. Add salt, chili powder, tamarind, coriander chutney to taste. If desired include cilantro and tomato.
