I guess I’m a sucker for sweets with woolly mammoth mascots. This product comes to us from Gamesa, the largest confection maker in Mexico. It’s a variation of the legendary moonpie, only a little smaller. It features a thin layer of chocolate, with two crumbly cookies and marshmallow in between. The first bite was crunchier that I would’ve expected but the coconut flavor was a welcome surprise. The inner cookie isn’t very crumbly, more akin to a tea biscuit than a graham cracker.
Mamut was enjoyable but I found myself missing the melt in the mouth quality of moonpies. Just as it’s unwise to get involved in a land war in Asia, it’s best to avoid challenging the pre-eminent snack of Chattanooga.
