Steel cut oatmeal is one of my favorite, easy breakfasts. It’s whole grain and a great source of fiber, iron and protein. Unlike nutritionally similar rolled oats, steel cut doesn’t spike the blood sugar because the thicker pieces take longer for the body to process. Check out this link comparing the benefits of the two from Prevention Magazine.
My standard way of making oatmeal is the same as everyone: brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and milk (non-dairy). Delicious, yes. But the repetition can sometimes breeds boredom. To jazz it up lately I added about an ounce mango pulp along with a few chopped strawberries. The warmth of hearty oatmeal mixed with the tang and sweetness of the fruit helped invigorate my go-to breakfast.
