The HBO show, Treme is set in post-Katrina New Orleans just months after the disaster. I wasn’t sure how the show could be anything but depressing. Luckily, it offers plenty of levity in the form characters like wacky DJ David Maclary (Steve Zahn), restaurateur Janette Desautel (Kim Dickens), and musicians galore like Antoine Baptiste (Wendell Pierce). Treme provides a needed perspective from locals of what it’s like without embellishment. And I challenge you to get the theme song from John Boutte out of your head:
As part of viewing ritual we’ve taken to munching on DF Mavens New Orleans Praline ice cream. You could identify it as non-dairy but it’s just as creamy as regular ice cream. It’s refreshingly not-stingy with the pralines. The pecan gives a nice little bit of saltiness for contrast.
All DF Mavens products are non-dairy. They have soy, almond and coconut based desserts along with sugar free. As a runner, I find it interesting that Ultra Runner Rich Roll happens to be on the board of directors for the company.
We’re onto season 2 of 4 of Treme so it looks like we’re going to have to stock up. Have you tried this product before?
