This easy tamarind chicken recipe uses chutney to create a tangy flavor. If tamarind chutney isn’t available in your area, tamarind concentrate can be used but it will need to be diluted. Also you’ll want to add about a teaspoon of sugar or honey. This recipe is best if the chicken is allowed to marinade for a few hours.
Servings: 3
Prep Time: 2 hours
Active Time: 20 minutes
Cook Time: 20 minutes
Ingredients:
6 chicken drumsticks or thighs
1/4 cup tamarind chutney
1 T garlic powder
1 t basil
1 t salt
chili powder or sriracha to taste
1/2 cup water
Method:
In a bowl, add in all ingredients and mix well. Allow chicken to marinade for at least an hour in the fridge.
Turn a pan on to medium heat. Using tongs, pull out chicken pieces and place into skillet. Do not discard marinade. Cook a few minutes on each side till browned. Add marinade into pan. Mix it in well. Continue cooking for about 10 minutes, flipping chicken occasionally.
Would this have a sweet/spicy flavor? I have used tamarind before with Indian food cooking. Would this work in a crock pot??
Yes, it does have a sweet/spicy flavor. It would work in a crock pot but I’d suggest a slight brown on the meat first (unless you prefer the more “stewed” meat texture. Cheers and thanks for the question.
it’s amazing
thank you for the recipe 🙂
